COSTS: The overheads of operating in London normally results in high operating costs and therefore high fees for you. However, any specialist service needs a constant flow of clients in their specialism to justify considerable investment in continuing training and specialist resources, therefore we offer lower than normal fees... so in basic terms, we work harder but you pay less.

As we don't normally charge by the hour you don't have the worry of an unknown final bill. Hourly rates are especially a problem if the Solicitor you instruct is not a Probate expert, as s/he will spend time (and therefore your money) researching items that s/he would know if a Specialist).

You have nothing to lose from obtaining a fixed-fee quote from us and if you are comparing it with any other London based firm, you have everything to gain.

If you are named as an EXECUTOR in a Will, or you are the NEXT OF KIN (when there is no Will), YES you can instruct us, even if a different Solicitor holds the Will.
WHAT IF THERE'S A 'FAMILY SOLICITOR'?:
If the deceased had a 'family solictor' looking after the Will - that is all they were doing, storing the Will until needed. You will probably be invited to meet and by all means do so, but insist that they provide you with a FIXED, FULLY-INCLUSIVE written quote. Loyalty to any particular Solicitor can be expensive and not appropriate in the event of the death.

Whatever you are told before a meeting, it is not necessary to give the deceased's papers and documents to a Solicitor just to prepare an Estimate. Simply take with you a list of the assets and liabilities. As you still hold the deceased's original papers, you are then free to use a different Probate Solicitor without feeling obliged to the use the 'Family Solicitor'.
